A LITTLE HISTORY OF NAPOLI PIZZA
In 1889 in Italy, one of the most pivotal events in the country’s history occurred.
No we are not talking about the unification of Italy as a sovereign nation, we are talking about the invention of the Margherita Pizza.
During a visit to Naples by Queen Margherita of Savoy (whom the dish is named after),
one brave chef took pizza out of obscurity and into the limelight. As the story goes, Chef Esposito created the iconic pizza
as a tribute to not only the Queen but his beloved country of Italy. Basil, Mozzarella, and Tomato. Green, White, and Red.
One perfect creation of nationalism and culinary exploration that put a spotlight on pizza and created an identity for the pizza.
